2023 Calendar "Celebration of Marley and the Gift of Baxter"

Our beloved Marley crossed the bridge into dog heaven on March 28, 2022 in the loving arms of his dad and mom, James and Trish, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was a special dog who was half human. We are so grateful for the nearly 12 years we had with man’s best friend, Marley, Mr Marley, Boy or Chuka. Marley’s favorite pastime was swimming in the pool, and he loved to dive to the bottom to retrieve his toys, He would swim for hours on end, and this sports only downside was the ear infections he struggled with as he aged. Born on 7-11-2010 was his lucky number when his proud owner, James, picked him out at Four Seasons Kennel in Colt’s Neck, New Jersey on a hot summer day and took him to the Ocean City beach. Instantly, Marley was a celebrity as everyone on the beach wanted to look at him and take his picture. Marley had a natural gift for posing for the camera from that day on. Now for James who is an avid photographer, this was a match made in heaven. It’s not an overstatement to say that Marley is one of the most photographed animals on the face of the earth. James took Marley to work at the farm every day. Through good and bad days Marley was always there for support and comfort at just the right time, it seemed like he could look in my eyes and know just what I wanted. All I needed to say was “picture” and he’d spring into action and pose. As time passed Marley became famous from coast to coast. In 2013 Marley appeared on the cover of the Orvis Catalog, He was in USA Today, and newspaper articles. Thousands followed him on Facebook and on the Betts images website over the years. When customers came to the farm they would often ask, “Where’s Marley?” as he loved to greet everyone from behind the counter sometimes wearing a baseball cap. He spent many years with is sister, Ginger and with his little Shitsu friends, Jake and Jasmine who are all deceased. He is survived by his son, Baxter Betts. Several years ago, Marley became a father and Baxter and Marley often appeared together in photographs. He looked forward to playtime with his cousins, Bo and Titan. Around Christmas of 2021 Marley was diagnosed with a tumor near his heart and his days were numbered. He remained faithful as ever and still loved his rides in the truck “window shopping” for furry friends and romping in the green grass and fields. We were blessed to have another three months together before he passed. One of the last pictures I took featured Marley on a rock looking into the sunset. Somehow, I feel his presence as I look at a beautiful sunset, see the ocean waves roll in or witness the colorful leaves in the fall. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again. Donations will be made to the Morris Animal Foundation designated to the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study to help find solutions to serious threats to animals. The Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is one of the largest, most comprehensive prospective canine health studies in the United States. The Study’s purpose is to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the Foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on 3,000+ enrolled golden retrievers. Please help me support advancing the health of dogs everywhere by contributing to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your friends and family. Every dollar we raise will advance this great cause!
