On September 19, 2024, we lost our beloved Liberty to hemangiosarcoma and since then we have been learning more about this devastating cancer. Unfortunately, there are no classic clinical signs for hemangiosarcoma other than sudden, profound, internal bleeding.
The prognosis is poor, even with surgery and chemotherapy, most dogs die within months, and 90% die within a year. There are no preventative measures, testing, or cure. This cancer truly strikes without warning, forcing families to make difficult decisions within minutes of diagnosis.
This is what happened to our family, within two hours we went from a seemingly healthy dog, to holding her as she went to sleep one last time.

In our search for answers, I came across The Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, one of the largest, most comprehensive prospective canine health studies in the United States. The Study’s purpose is to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the Foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on 3,000+ enrolled golden retrievers.

My hope is that you decide to support this cause by donating to Liberty's Memorial Fund. Your support will help in advancing the health of dogs everywhere. Please share this page with your friends and family, every dollar we raise will advance this great cause and help find important treatment answers, so that Hemangiosarcoma does not have to be a death sentence.

Thank you to those who have donated. And thank you Liberty, for showing us true, unconditional love. We will miss you everyday.
