In Memory of Gaucho
My best friend Gaucho crossed the rainbow bridge on 12/23/24 at just nine years old. He had a splenic mass removed in September 2024, diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma in October, and was gone only two months later. Hemangiosarcoma is a devastating cancer that affects thousands of dogs each year, and this is the textbook story.
This is my first Christmas season without him in a decade, and as the decorations come out, so does the grief. Throughout the year, many of my training clients have shared their own heartbreaking experiences of the same story, and unfortunately a couple of my close friends faced it too.
Through hemangiosarcoma support groups, I was introduced to the Morris Animal Foundation. Since 1948, they have invested more than $149 million in over 2,940 animal health studies, including their Hemangiosarcoma Initiative, which focuses on advancing the prevention, detection, treatment, and—hopefully one day—cure for this devastating cancer. Their work is made possible by generous donors and partners.
Chances are, the animals you love have already benefited from the breakthroughs this research has made possible.
I’m inviting you to join this effort.
You can help improve the health and future of animals everywhere by:
● Donating (click the “Donate” button above)
● Sharing this page with your friends, family, and social networks
● Creating your own fundraiser page—it’s easy and meaningful
Every dollar we raise helps move animal health forward. Together, we can make a difference for animals everywhere.
In addition to your donations, I’ll be matching every dollar spent on Katie’s Buckles merchandise with an equal donation. All of our merch—beanies, stickers, pins, treat pouches—features my logo, and if you didn’t know, that logo is Gaucho. Thank you for supporting my company, and for honoring Gaucho in the process.
