Funding Feline Health Research in Hopes of a Cure for FeLV

Finn came to me on April 14, 2024 as a scrawny one-eyed kitten I found on the street. I fell in love with him instantly and I knew he would be mine. A couple months after I adopted him, he was diagnosed with FeLV: Feline Leukemia Virus. He got on a trial medication that was working wonders for him, and he lived to be around a year and a half old. In late March of 2025, Finn stopped finishing his food which was very out of character for him. At the end of the month he was becoming lethargic, and throwing up the food he did manage to eat. On April 2, 2025, a trip to the emergency vet revealed a large tumor in his lung, and I made the difficult decision to put him to sleep via humane euthanasia that same day. It's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do and I will miss him for the rest of my life.

FeLV is a virus that weakens a cats immune system and makes them more susceptible to more deadly diseases, such as cancer. Though Finn's medication was fighting the leukemia itself, it was doing nothing to the cancer in his lung which I was unaware of until it was too late. It's a terrible disease that affects a large percentage of cats, and there is little to no treatment currently available.

Finn was the most loving cat I've ever met. He was friendly to everyone and attached to my hip every second I was home. I want to use his memory to advocate for and help fund research of feline health in hopes of finding a cure for FeLV. Please consider donating to this cause to take a step towards eradicating this heartbreaking disease, and saving more cats from going through what Finn did.
