Life After Hemangiosarcoma: Walking for those who no longer can.
Life After Hemangiosarcoma is a heartfelt assembly of individuals brought together through shared grief and the profound love for our canine companions. Each member of our group has faced the devastating loss of a beloved dog due to hemangiosarcoma—a particularly aggressive and lethal form of cancer that often goes unnoticed until it is too late. This disease is a silent thief, robbing us not only of our furry friends but also of precious moments and cherished memories. Hemangiosarcoma typically affects the spleen or heart, and its insidious nature means that symptoms can be minimal or absent until the animal is in advanced stages of illness, making early detection and treatment exceedingly challenging.
In an effort to honor our beloved dogs and to combat this tragic disease, we have come together to establish walking and hiking goals. Through these physical activities, we aim to raise funds for the Morris Animal Foundation's Hemangiosarcoma Research Initiative, which focuses on understanding the biology of this cancer, improving diagnostic tools, and ultimately developing new treatments. Every step we take is fueled by our shared experiences and the hope that research will one day provide answers for future generations of dogs and their families. By transforming our grief into action, we are not only healing ourselves but also working collaboratively toward a future where fewer families have to endure the heartache of hemangiosarcoma.
